How Rentrio works

Rentrio connects people in Halifax who own something they rarely use with people who need it for a few days. You meet, you hand it over, you get it back.

Renting something

  1. Find something

Search by what you need, or browse by category. Everything on Rentrio is within reach of Halifax — you collect it in person.

  2. Pick your dates

The calendar shows what is already booked, so you only ask for dates that are actually free.

  3. Send a request

You see the full price before you commit — the daily rate, the number of days, and our service fee. Add a note about what you need it for; owners like knowing.

  4. The owner answers

Owners can accept or decline. Nothing is charged until an owner says yes.

  5. Pay

Once accepted, you pay by card through Stripe. Rentrio holds your payment until the rental is complete.

  6. Sort out the details

Message the owner to arrange a time and place. The pickup address appears once your payment has gone through.

  7. Confirm the pickup

Look the item over together, take a few photos, and both confirm in the app. The rental only starts once you both have.

  8. Return it and review

Bring it back on time, both confirm the return, and leave each other a review. Reviews only exist on rentals that actually happened.

Listing something

  1. List your item

Photos, an honest description, and what it is worth to replace. Ten minutes, once.

  2. Set your price and your dates

You choose the daily rate, the minimum rental, and any dates you need it yourself.

  3. Get requests

We email you when someone asks. You see who they are, their reviews, and what they want it for.

  4. Accept the ones you want

You are never obliged to say yes. Declining costs you nothing and needs no explanation.

  5. Arrange the handover

Message the renter to fix a time. Meet somewhere you are comfortable.

  6. Confirm the pickup

Photograph the item with the renter present and both confirm. Those photos cannot be changed afterwards, which is what makes them worth taking.

  7. Confirm the return

Check it over when it comes back and confirm. If something is wrong, report it before the rental closes.

  8. Get paid

We send your share to your bank through Stripe after the return is confirmed and a short hold period passes. Our commission is 0%.

List an item

What it costs

Owners set their own daily rate. Renters pay that, plus a 5% service fee. Owners keep their rate less a 0% commission.

Both numbers are on the screen before anyone pays anything. There is no fee that appears later, and no charge for listing an item or for declining a request.

Some listings show a security deposit figure. That is disclosed for information only — no deposit is currently collected or held.

What we do, and what we don’t

We hold the payment

Your money stays with Rentrio until the rental is complete. The owner is paid after the return is confirmed and a short hold period passes.

We keep contact details private

Email addresses and phone numbers are never shown. The pickup address appears only once a booking is paid for.

Both sides confirm

A rental starts and ends only when both people have confirmed, and condition photos cannot be altered afterwards.

Reviews are earned

Only people who completed a real rental can review each other, once each.

Being straight with you

Rentrio does not provide insurance and cannot guarantee you will be reimbursed if something is damaged or not returned. We do not background-check anyone or inspect items. Renting from a stranger carries real risk, and the photos you take at the handover are the most useful thing you can do about it.

Read the safety guidance and the damage and loss policy before your first rental.

If something goes wrong

Report a problem on the rental. That holds the owner’s payout while a human looks at the booking, the handover records, and the photos. Do it before the rental closes — once money has been sent to the owner we cannot recall it. The full process is in disputes and incident reporting.
