Terms of Service
The agreement between you and the platform.

What Rentrio is
Rentrio is a marketplace. People who own something they rarely use list it, and people who want to borrow it book it for a few days and collect it locally. The rental itself is an agreement between those two people. We provide the place they find each other, the booking system, and the payment handling.
We do not own, inspect, store, deliver, or test the items listed here, and we are not a party to the rental agreement between an owner and a renter.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 18 and able to enter into a contract. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your sign-in details to yourself.
If you list an item
- Describe it accurately, including anything wrong with it.
- Use your own photographs of the actual item.
- You must own it, or be allowed to rent it out.
- It must not be on the prohibited items list.
- Keep your availability current, and honour bookings you accept.
- Hand over the item in the condition you described.
If you rent an item
- Use the item for what it is designed for, and follow the owner’s rules.
- Return it on time, in the condition you received it.
- Tell the owner straight away if something goes wrong.
- Do not sub-rent, sell, or take the item out of the province.
Money
Prices are set by owners. On top of the rental subtotal we add a renter service fee, and we deduct a commission from the owner’s side. Both percentages are shown in full on the booking screen before you pay — there is no fee revealed later.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Rentrio holds your payment until the rental is complete, then sends the owner their share. We never see or store your full card number.
Still being finalised. GST/HST treatment for the platform commission, and whether individual owners have their own tax obligations, is with an accountant. Nothing on this site is tax advice.
What we can do about accounts and listings
We can hide a listing, suspend an account, or hide a review where something breaks these terms — abuse, fraud, personal information posted publicly, prohibited items, or a legal requirement. Suspension stops new activity; it does not delete your history, and a rental already under way can still be completed.
Reviews cannot be deleted by the person who wrote them or the person they are about. We can hide one for the reasons above, and we keep a record of every such action.
Things you must not do
- Take a rental off-platform to avoid fees, after meeting here.
- Post someone else’s photos, or a listing for an item you do not have.
- Write or solicit fake reviews.
- Scrape, automate, or attack the site.
- Harass anyone, or use the messaging system for anything but the rental.
Limits on what we are responsible for
We are responsible for running the marketplace and handling payments correctly. We are not responsible for the condition, safety, legality, or performance of items listed by other people, and we do not guarantee that any item will be available, suitable, or as described.
Rentrio does not provide insurance of any kind. If you want cover for an item you own or borrow, arrange it yourself.
Still being finalised. Liability limits, indemnities, and the dispute-resolution clause need a Nova Scotia lawyer’s review before this document is final. This draft deliberately does not state a cap or a waiver, because inventing one would be worse than leaving the gap visible.
Governing law
These terms are intended to be governed by the laws of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
Still being finalised. The exact venue and dispute-resolution wording is a question for counsel, including whether small claims in Nova Scotia is the right forum for rental disputes.
Changes
We will update these terms as the product changes. If a change materially affects you, we will say so rather than quietly editing the page.
